Ivy Cutting Marks the Start of SPU Commencement Ceremonies

More than 90 years of tradition will continue at 西雅图 Pacific University on Friday, 6月10日, 9:30-10:30 a.m., as hundreds of graduating seniors and their 家庭 take part in the annual Ivy Cutting ceremony held in 蒂芙尼循环 在校园. Ivy Cutting marks the start of graduation activities at SPU. The Ivy Cutting ceremony, Graduate Commencement, and Undergraduate Commencement will be 生活流.

Begun as an "Ivy Planting" ceremony in 1922, this long-honored tradition involves students, 家庭, 教师, 和工作人员. Graduating seniors dressed in caps and gowns circle a rope of ivy. After a brief ceremony, each graduate receives a sprig of ivy, signifying both the student’s tie to SPU and the independence that comes with graduation. Light refreshments follow for graduates, parents, and 教师 in 蒂芙尼循环.

Undergraduate Commencement will be held Saturday, June 11, beginning at 1 p.m. 在基体育馆. More than 1,200 students will graduate from SPU this spring. 

西雅图 Pacific University is located at the corner of Third Avenue West and West Nickerson Street, on the north slope of Queen Anne Hill. 蒂芙尼循环 is located at the corner of 3rd Avenue West and West Cremona Street.
